non è il solito pesce d’Aprile. È un altro dispaccio del Capitano…

Stop, and look! (Visibilità – Pt.3)
“You don’t look, do you? You don’t look at the world, you just drive
straight through it. Stop, and look!"
Wallander -
The Fifth Woman

Buon
viaggio!

FROM THE CRYPT - The Kinks
1968. All the "People of the Rock" is committed to “see for miles and miles” Eastern country and lysergic horizons, the music ranges from endless instrumental jams to classical weighty orchestral arrangements and monumental solos. In the midst of this cauldron, Ray Davies, mastermind of the now well established Kinks, really devoted himself to something else: to recover the past traditions, to look towards the courtyards of countryside houses, to building introvert sketches and caricatures of an old Village Green depositary and custodian of memories and unspeakable secrets. It’s the most “against the stream” thing that a rock musician could do in that 1968; it’s like to Damon Albarn wake up one morning to perform a duet with Britney. Continue >>

Give the People What they Want
Give the people what they want, possibly the best way to artistic (or, sometimes, politic) success. It’s the last teen white-blond-girl that strip on stage for middle-class masses, or huge black-armed rapper that make feel you so honest (and safe); or your congressman of whom you don’t know even the name. No differences. Give the people what they want, let ‘em choose but don’t let ‘em DECIDE. You decide, they could only choose what follow. Let ‘em vote but don’t let ‘em write a name. A cross is enough.giovedì 14 luglio 2011
SONSG TO (re)DISCOVER
Hollywood Star - Granicus - 1973
Celluloid Heroes - Kinks - 1972
Today a pair of song musically very different but joined by lyric's argument: the Hollywood's way of life between reality, fiction and lies.
Hollywood Star, by Granicus, is a straight-ahead hard rockin but with a frustration and a remorse that you don't expect in mid '70 hard rock; a proto Henry Rollins number.
Celluloid heroes by Kinks is simply one of the best Ray Davies' text (maybe one of the best in Brit Pop...), complete with a perfect sweet melancholy in the music; lyrics like:
I wish my life was a non-stop Hollywood movie show,
A fantasy world of celluloid villains and heroes,
Because celluloid heroes never feel any pain
And celluloid heroes never really die.
A fantasy world of celluloid villains and heroes,
Because celluloid heroes never feel any pain
And celluloid heroes never really die.
should only be taught in schools.
