“Non hai visto in Mostri in Paradiso?” Spread, default, debito, tango bond, presidenti che parlano di Apocalisse. Sono piombati dal nulla a distruggere le torri del potere. Ricacciandoci indietro nel tempo. Questi mostri in paradiso sono una delle immagini più forti e misconosciute emerse dal rock britannico. La cover costruita dallo studio Hipgnosis per il debutto dei Quatermass ha acquistato, oggi, un’aura mistica. Quegli pterosauri plananti tra le torri di vetro sembrano un presagio sinistro dell 11/09, quando la preistorica violenza terroristica planò tra i grattacieli di New York, ricacciando i governi nell’oscurantismo di guerre e jihad.
Ma i Mostri non se ne sono andati dal nostro vecchio Paradiso, sbattono ancora le loro ali rettiliane tra l’avorio dei Palazzi. Spread, default, debito, governi in bancarotta. E prima o poi, i sauri volanti si poseranno a terra. Mostri in Paradiso.
- La canzone “Monster in Paradise” (Gustafson, Gillian, Glover) benché già nel repertorio live dei Quatermass e risalente al periodo degli Episode Six, comparirà nel 1971 nell’album Bulletproof degli Hard Stuff
- La foto originale fu scattata a Londra, ai palazzi governativi di Victoria St. La duplicazione dell’immagine restituisce una forte illusione ottica, quasi fosse un’opera Op-Art.

“Did you see the Monster in Paradise?” Spread, default, debt, tango bonds, Presidents talking about Revelation. They are sealed from nothing to destroy the Towers of Power. Fighting back in time. These “Monsters in paradise” are and one of the strongest (and unsung…) images that emerged from the British rock. The cover made by Hipgnosis studio for the debut of Hard-Prog trio Quatermass has become, today, a mystical aura. Those pterosaurs gliding between the glass towers seem a sinister omen of 11/09, when the prehistoric terrorist violence glides down among the New York skyscrapers, pushing governments back in the obscurantism of jihad and wars.
But the monsters are not gone from our old Paradise, still flapping their reptilian wings among the ivory palaces. Spreads, default, debt, bankrupt governments. And sooner or later, the flying lizards will stand down. To stay. Monsters in Paradise.
- The song "Monster in Paradise" (Gustafson, Gillian, Glover), although was already in the live repertoire of Quatermass and dating from the Episode Six time, will appear in the 1971 album Bulletproof by Hard Stuff
- The original photo was taken in London, at the government buildings of Victoria St. The duplication of the image returns a strong optical illusion, as if it were an Op-Art work.
