Song for 2012: Black Sabbath – La marea atomica nell’ ora di religione

No wonder if in that huge Diazepam intravenous, which were the first Black Sabbath LPs there was an horror chapter about the Apocalypse and the Judgement Day.
Electric Funeral opens Paranoid’s Side B with a riff that would require a prescription: round figure of wah-wah guitar, slow and autumnal, non-stop falling in a shadow cone of chronic depression fostered by elementary and monotonous rhythm . On this scenario, Ozzy sings with mellifluous perversion of a teenage altar boy reciting the rosary, peering between the skirts of devout in the front row.

Reflex in the sky warn you you're gonna die
Storm coming, you'd better hide from the atomic tide
Flashes in the sky turns houses into sties
Turns people into clay, radiation minds decay

Robot minds of robot slaves Lead Them to atomic rage
plastic flowers, melting sun, fading moon falls upon
Dying world of radiation, victims of mad frustration
Burning globe of oxy'n fire, like electric funeral pyre

Cleared for the masses due to the Doors, the "funeral pyre" here becomes “electric” and closes the verse leading to the instrumental acceleration that, in the middle of the track, shaking off for a while the pharmaceuticals torpor.

Buildings crashing down to cracked ground
Rivers turn to wood, ice melting to flood
Earth lies in death bed, clouds cry water dead
Tearing life away, here's the burning pay

After investigating the effects of Total Conflict in War Pigs, that's the wave of atomic radiation which turns people into clay, destroying the globe among the cries of the damned, while the cries of Ozzy remain impassive as the eyes of a sedated psychopath watching the white wall in front of him.
All right up here, then in the last strophe wakes up the whole retrograde band’s bigotry, actually the more Christian group that you could meet: read (not heard) After Forever to believing: stuff that even torments the most stubborn of Jehovah Witnesses. It becomes perfectly clear that the group’s obsession for mass destruction weapons, rocketry annihilation and robot killers is the complete implementation of the classic “Fear of God”, which is the duty of every good practitioner.

And I know in the sky shines the electric eye
supernatural king takes earth under His wing
Heaven's golden chorus sings, Hell's angels flap Their wings
Evil souls fall to Hell, ever trapped in burning cells!

The big electronic eye worked better in the absurd prophetic visions of Archangel's Thunderbird (When the everywhere-eye Asks you Who is the emperor of the sky Take the archangel's thunderbird) but anyway the Sabbath can cheer up us even among so stunned despair: the Heaven's golden chorus await the righteous among white clouds, while the Hell opens the door to evils. Half a miniature Requiem, half an episode of Supernatural, which is pulling a nice sigh of relief to every Believer.
Possible that the inventors of Heavy Metal were also the first Christians rockers?

Reflex in the sky warn you you're gonna die
Storm coming, you'd better hide from the atomic tide
Flashes in the sky turns houses into sties
Turns people into clay, radiation minds decay

Robot minds of robot slaves lead them to atomic rage
plastic flowers, melting sun, fading moon falls upon
dying world of radiation, victims of mad frustration
Burning globe of oxy'n fire, like electric funeral pyre

Buildings crashing down to a cracking ground
Rivers turn to wood, ice melting to flood
Earth lies in death bed, clouds cry water dead
Tearing life away, here's the burning pay

And so in the sky shines the electric eye
supernatural king takes earth under his wing
Heaven's golden chorus sings, Hell's angels flap their wings
Evil souls fall to Hell, ever trapped in burning cells!

Il grande occhio elettronico funzionava meglio nelle assurde visioni profetiche di Archangel’s Thunderbird (When the everywhere-eye Asks you who is the emperor of the sky Take the archangel's thunderbird) ma ad ogni modo I Sabbath riescono a consolarci anche fra tanta attonita disperazione: i dorati cori angelici attendono i giusti tra nuvolette candide mentre l’Inferno schiude le porte ai malvagi.
